GPSR Product Labelling: What Should Be Included?
If you sell consumer products into the EU, your product label should do more than simply describe the item. Under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR, product information should help consumers, marketplaces and EU authorities identify the product, understand any safety risks, and contact the relevant responsible parties where required.
A clear GPSR label will usually include the product name, model number, batch number or other identifying reference. This helps trace the product if there is ever a safety query, marketplace review or recall issue.
The label should also show the manufacturer’s details, including the business name, postal address and electronic contact information. Where the manufacturer is based outside the EU and an EU Authorised Representative or Responsible Person is required, those details should also be clearly included. For example, Rombes s.r.o. may be listed as the EU Authorised Representative where appointed under a written mandate.
Safety warnings are another key part of the label. These should be specific to the product and easy to understand. For products sold across several EU countries, safety information may need to be provided in the relevant national languages. In the example label, the warnings are shown in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Dutch to reflect common EU destination markets.
A QR code or website link can also help provide additional instructions and safety information. However, key safety information should still be clearly available on the label, packaging or accompanying document where required.
